UK Intercounties Championships, Wollaton Park, Nottingham - Sat 15 March 2008 Jonny Pegg and Pippa Hicks were selected to run for Leicestershire and Rutland at the Intercounties Cross Country Championships in Nottingham. Pippa found the hilly course for U20 women's 6k race to be tough and could only finish in 116th place in a time of 29:48. In the U17 men's race, Jonny made a fast start from the back of the field to get amongst the top 30 or so, but tired badly in the second half of the race to finish back in 176th place in a time of 23.08. National Cross Country Championships - Alton Towers - Sat 23 Feb 2008 Pippa Hicka and Jonny Pegg ran in the 2008 National Cross Country Championships at Alton Towers over a hilly course. Pippa was 110th in the Junior women's race in a time of 19:12. Jonny started strongly in the U17 men's race but faded towards the end to finish 84th in a time of 16:17. Leicestershire and Rutland County Cross County Championships - Burbage Common - Sat 5 Jan 2008 Several athletes took part in the county championships at Burbage Common. Despite the fine sunny day, a tough muddy course greeted the runners. Pippa Hicks saw the best of the conditions in the first race, the U20 women's 5k event. She put in a good run to finish 3rd in 25.44 and claim a place in the team for the intercounties championships at Wollaton Park on March 15. Hayley White ran in the U13 girls' 3k race and finished 32nd in 16.55. Jonny Pegg and Billy Hicks ran in the U17 men's 6k race. Jonny started well but faded over the latter stages of the race to finish 6th in 24.07. Billy finished 19th in 29.42. The day finished with the combined seniors and masters (35+) 9.5k race. In the masters' race, Tim Hicks (running for Stilton Striders) was 23rd in 43.13. And some images of the day: |
